The Drunk Driving Prevention Program (DDPP) has been providing a free designated driver service that covers the entire island of Oahu since October 18th 2013. DDPP designated drivers work in two man volunteer driver teams. The DDPP also drives the participant’s vehicle home for free upon request. The DDPP designated driver service is available from 7:30 pm until 3:30 am every Friday and Saturday night and on certain holidays.
Anyone over the age of 21 that would like to have access to the program must first read the DDPP’s liability waiver and agree to it online at http://ddpp.us  while they are sober. People interested in volunteering can sign up at http://ddpp.us, email the DDPP at volunteer@ddpp.us, or they can call 808-888-7407.

The DDPP only provides participants with one free ride. If a participant would like to be eligible to use the DDPP’s service a second time, they must sign up to be a designated driver for at least one night.

During operating hours designated driver teams are on stand-by at their respective residences waiting to get activated for a call near their location. Designated driver teams are scheduled to work together based off a DDPP grid system to ensure volunteers live near each other. This system also helps to reduce participants wait times ensuring the closest team available is dispatched to the participant’s location.

The DDPP is an entirely volunteer run Non-Profit Corporation and tax exempt IRS 501(c) 3 charity. No one within the DDPP receives any sort of salary and all donations go towards program expenses such as advertising, vans, breathalyzers, GPS units, and video surveillance equipment for vehicles.
