Asia Biogas announces appointment of new chairman, Conor McCoole, ex-Global Head of Project Finance at Standard Chartered Bank.

Singapore – 29 August 2017 (PressReleasePoint)
Asia Biogas Singapore Pte Ltd (Asia Biogas) is pleased to announce the appointment of Conor McCoole as Chairman.
An expert in energy and infrastructure project financing, with over 25 years experience in the banking sector, Conor was previously Global Co-Head Project & Export Finance at Standard Chartered Bank. He has spent most of his career in Asia, and has completed numerous project financings in renewables and infrastructure. Conor brings deep knowledge of the finance and energy sector across Southeast Asia to the Asia Biogas team.
The appointment of Conor reunites him with his ex-Standard Chartered colleague, Russell Amor who joined Asia Biogas earlier this year. Conor was introduced to the Asia Biogas team at the annual One Team conference held this year in Pattaya.
McCoole said:
“Biogas projects in Southeast Asia are among the highest-impact clean energy projects I have seen in my career. In 2016, Asia Biogas reactors treated over 4.8 million m3 of effluent, produced 26 million m3 of clean-burning biomethane gas, generated 39 million KWh of electricity and reduced CO2 equivalent emissions by an estimated 400,000 tonnes. Our projects have a positive impact on social development by providing 165 full-time jobs, 90% of which are in rural communities and 25% of which are skilled positions.
Unlike in Europe, biogas receives little or no regulatory favour in Southeast Asia. Thailand is a leader in biogas but investors get a much better tariff to generate power from solar panels or wind turbines. Policy-makers ought to be encouraging the anaerobic digestion of all organic waste because it is superior on many levels: climatic, environmental, social and economic.
If any investor would like to buy our biogas carbon credits at a realistic price, Asia Biogas promises to reinvest every cent of the proceeds in new biogas projects.”
Asia Biogas CEO Des Godson said:
“Conor has long been a great mentor and friend to Asia Biogas, and it is a great honour to now have him formally join the group. The group plans to grow aggressively over the coming years and Conor’s leadership and intellect will help ensure that Asia Biogas makes great investment decisions.”

About Asia Biogas
Asia Biogas Group operates from offices in Singapore, Bangkok and Jakarta, delivering award winning biogas projects on Joint Venture (JV), Build Own Operate Transfer (BOOT) and EPC basis for clients. Asia Biogas also provides design and advisory work for clients and is regional agent for a number of excellent associated technologies. Having built over 90 projects across the region, the group owns and operates eleven projects in Thailand, Indonesia and Laos. Daily biogas production across the operating sites is up to 185,000 Nm3 per day, with the gas being used for process heat and electricity production. If all the gas went to electricity production it could generate 440MWh per day, equivalent to the output of 80MW of solar PV. In addition to energy, the projects contribute significant greenhouse gas emission reductions, amounting to as much as 400,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent reductions per year.
