The Dutch plan to come to Will and Kate’s wedding in their droves but there’ll be no ‘I do’ from France, reveals Skyscanner

Prince William and Kate Middleton have not left the headlines since the recent announcement that Will WILL be married.

The media frenzy surrounding the dress, the guest list and the price tag has inspired the world to descend on London for the big day, according to Skyscanner. The leading flights comparison site is reporting a dramatic surge in searches for flights to London, with the exception of France that is…

The nation most excited about the royal wedding is The Dutch. Skyscanner has seen a booming 708% increase in London searches from The Netherlands after the wedding date was announced. Queen’s Day is a yearly event celebrated with gusto by the Dutch and William and Kate are clearly inspiring the same sense of jubilation in our Dutch companions.

Another huge leap in searches was seen from the United States, with an increase of 650%. American’s have always found British monarchy alluring. Is it the mythology of olde-worlde Great Britain? Or remorse for the rebellion against rightfully-constituted Royal authority by their forbearers? Whatever the reason, as the only long haul destination to fall in the top ten increases they definitely win the award for most committed to the cause.

Germany’s close familial ties to the British royal family could account for its substantial 295% increase, making it the third highest riser.

Our European friends are certainly showing a strong national interest with the following search increases seen:
Croatia – 260%
Denmark – 253%
Cyprus – 250%
Austria – 143%
Italy – 133%
Switzerland – 100%
Spain – 91%

Notably absent from the list is France, which may be one of our closest neighbours, but is a famously anti-royal realm.
Gareth Williams, CEO of Skyscanner commented, “We have witnessed a significant increase in searches following the announcement of the royal wedding holiday. Funnily enough it seems that Brits aren’t as loyal to the royals as some of our neighbouring nations as we have also seen a 275% increase in searches from Brits looking to make the most of the extra holiday and escape the UK and the wedding hype.”

Notes to Editors:
Skyscanner looked at the number of searches for flights to London before the announcement of the date of the wedding, and then for the same time period after the wedding date was made public. The website looked at the top ranking countries, and found some very marked increases.
