Fujitsu Named Top US Patent Recipient in Optical Communications for Fifth Consecutive Year

Richardson, TX, June 08, 2010 — Fujitsu, a leading provider of business, information technology, and communications solutions, announced today recognition by theUnited States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)as the leader in Optical Communications patents for 2009, the most recent reporting year. This recognition marks the fifth consecutive year in which Fujitsu was awarded more optical communication patents in the United States than any other company in the segment, a testament to the sustained,.

Each year the USPTO reports the number of award patents by technology classification as well as the companies receiving the most patent awards. Fujitsu was awarded 71 patents in 2009 underClassification 398 – Optical Communications, and has received 279 over the past five years in technologies that include materials science, optical components, 40G/100G high speed photonics, optical amplifiers, and packet/optical integration.
