The Farmers' Union of Wales is promoting its latest campaign "Supporting Family Farms Since 1955" at the Denbigh & Flint county show (August 21) by handing out free cotton shopper bags and highlighting the important role family farms play in the wider rural community.

The campaign coincides with this year's UN International Year of Family Farming that highlights the potential role family farmers can make to eradicating hunger, preserving natural resources and promoting sustainable development.

"We are also promoting the union's latest fundraising initiative of covering the whole of the Wales coast path via a huge sponsored walk event to raise funds for children's hospice charities Tŷ Hafan and Tŷ Gobaith," said FUW Denbighshire and Flintshire county executive officer Rhys Roberts.

"Denbigh and Flintshire teams of union members, staff and friends will embark on various walks along the whole length of our section of the coast in an effort to boost funds for both charities which have been chosen for FUW president Emyr Jones' 2014 charity appeal. We are looking forward to talking to visitors to the stand about the initiative and sign those up that have an interest of joining us for the event later in September," added Mr Roberts.

Members and visitors at the show will also get the chance to talk to the North Wales police and crime commissioner Winston Roddick about rural policing initiative and rural crime when he visits the FUW stand and Davis Mead Property Consultants and E.ON will also be in attendance on the stand during the day to offer members advice on land and property matters and potential cost savings on energy tariffs respectively.

The FUW Denbigh and Flintshire branch will also be presenting a cheque of over £500 to the RABI. The money was raised at the annual dinner member's function in November last year, along with a donation from the Llansannan branch of the FUW.

"As usual there will be a warm welcome for all members to join us for some light refreshments," said Mr Roberts.
