Give the Gift of Warm Feet to Children in Need
HAP's “Boots for Kids” to Benefit Families through Carriage Town Ministries of Flint, City Rescue Mission of Saginaw, Pathway Shelter of Port Huron
FLINT – November 23, 2009 –
A local effort is underway to prevent hundreds of local children from facing a bitter cold winter without a warm pair of boots to protect their feet.
From now until the end of January, Health Alliance Plan (HAP) is collecting new winter boots for children served by Carriage Town Ministries of Flint, City Rescue Michigan of Saginaw and Pathway Shelter of Port Huron.
“When we launched “Boots for Kids” last December, the demand for boots was so high that we quickly ran out of our supply,” said Anita Moliterno, general manager for HAP’s Flint office. “It’s just heartbreaking to have to turn down a request like that, and we expect the demand to be even higher this year.”
“Imagine the blessings you could bring to a child this winter by simply picking up a pair of boots while you’re out shopping for your friends and family,” said Moliterno.
New children’s winter boots may be dropped off until the end of January at sites throughout east/central Michigan. HAP has partnered with local health insurance agents who have agreed to collect boots at their offices throughout Genesee, Huron, Saginaw and St. Clair counties. Retailers have also stepped up to help by donating merchandise or cash. Meijer is the top contributor so far.
A list of drop-off locations, as well as retailers contributing to the cause, is available at
