The Grand Sylhet adds spice to Bournemouth’s restaurant scene
The Mayor of Bournemouth is to officially open a new 100-seat Indian restaurant in the heart of the town.
Bournemouth, 27th May, 2009, PressReleasePoint - Ten hospitality jobs have been created in the heart of Bournemouth thanks to a new 100-seat restaurant headed by a top Indian chef.
The Grand Sylhet is a 4,600 sq ft Bangladeshi business on the site of the former Hot Ice eaterie and bar at 61 Westover Road.
Chef Anawar Miah trained at ex-PM John Major’s favourite Peterborough brasserie and learned his cooking style from former Curry Chef of the Year, Oli Khan.
Mr Miah said: “The opportunity came up to open our business at what is a perfect location in Bournemouth, close to the Pavilion, BIC and other attractions.
“Despite the recession, we know people appreciate quality food and service. When I worked at the Bombay Brasserie in Mr Major’s Huntingdon constituency he used to travel in from many miles away as he loved the flavours.
”We use fresh, high-flavour ingredients including fruit and cream to create sauces that have a more exotic taste than Indian dishes made with powders.”
The Mayor of Bournemouth, Councillor Stephen Chappell, will officially open the restaurant at a reception on Wednesday, 27th May, at 7pm.
The Grand Sylhet is named after the city of Sylhet, renowned as the tea capital of Bangladesh.
The Grand Sylhet is at 61 Westover Road, Bournemouth, BH1 2BZ. For bookings, ring 01202 559115.
