Greenergy Solutions Sponsors Environmental Journalists Forum On Climate Change
The Journalists’ workshop dubbed as “Too Hot To Handle: Understanding and Reporting Climate Change” had gathered the best minds of Philippine Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation initiatives and advocacy.
Ruth P. Briones, the Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Greenergy Solutions Inc. and Lead Convenor of Zero Waste Philippines Project announced that Greenergy Solutions had sponsored the two-day Workshop of Philippine Network of Environmental Journalists (PNEJ) held on November 5-6, 2010 at the Bayview Park Hotel in Manila, Philippines.
The Journalists’ workshop dubbed as “Too Hot To Handle: Understanding Climate Change” had gathered the best minds of Philippine Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation initiatives and advocacy. Leading the list include the Vice-Chair of the Philippine Climate Change Commission, Heherson Alvarez who delivered the Welcome Address that dealt on Philippine Strategies to combat climate change.
Panel discussions during the two day workshop were on the following topics: Understanding the United Nations International Negotiations; the Politics of Climate Change; Sticking points for a successful binding agreement; How to communicate climate change to the public; Ways toward after Copenhagen and expectation in Cancun Climate Talks; Mainstreaming climate change adaptation in the local level and Philippine strategy in addressing climate change.
Presenters include Commissioner Mary Lucille Ann Sering, Commissioner of the Climate Change Commission, Governor Joey Salceda, Former DENR Secretary Elisea Gozun. Howie Severino of GMA-TV was the Forum moderator.
Dr. Rosa Perez, lead author for the 4th Assessment Report of the IPCC-Working Group presented the topic on understanding Climate Systems and Climate Change, the greenhouse effect and the evidence for it,main types of emissions, impacts and vulnerability, certainty and risk and the projected future changes.
Dr. Rodel Lasco of the UPLB and the Country Coordinator of the World Agroforestry Center linked climate change adaptation to sustainable development, and tropical forest and climate, science in support of adaptation to climate change.Rodolfo Azansa of SN Power made a brief presentation on how they do business as renewable energy company in the Philippines dealing with Hydro Power Plants. Meanwhile, Greenergy Solutions’ Zero Waste Philippines’ project was presented by its Chair. Both SN Power and Greenergy Solutions are sponsors of the said Workshop.
The Environmental Journalists group is led by Ms. Imelda V. Abano. PNEJ has nationwide members of media practitioners that include broadcasters, development oriented writers and manila based broadsheet media group.(www.greenergyph.com)
