The company’s Americas client list grows over 40%, adding $2.3 billion to assets under management

NEW YORK, December 4, 2013 — In the past six months, global professional services company Towers Watson (NYSE, NASDAQ: TW) has seen a significant increase in North American qualified plans that have outsourced all or part of their investment portfolio management to Towers Watson. The majority of the mandates are full-fund outsourcing assignments, but two are specialist investment sleeves of larger portfolios.

“Many defined benefit and defined contribution plans, and other institutional investors of all sizes, continue to believe that the best way to achieve their investment objectives in the current environment is to outsource,” said Debra Woida, head of North American Delegated Investment Services at Towers Watson. “The reasons are often governance-related, as investors try to match their investment ambition with the right level and quality of resources. The trend toward outsourcing is clear and accelerating in line with a greater appreciation of the value full-time professional portfolio management can offer.”

The new appointments span the delegation spectrum from full-fund portfolio management appointments to specialist sleeves of hedge funds, private markets and alternative betas. The new clients’ portfolios, totaling $2.3 billion, bring the delegated assets managed by Towers Watson in the Americas to around $20 billion. The company is one of the world’s largest fiduciary managers and now has delegated responsibility for around US$60 billion of assets worldwide.
