Modeled to operate as part of a complete distributed power system, the CPL Platform front-end power supplies, 48/48V DC/DC converter, and their complementary shelves allow for powering solutions to meet all of your end-application needs.

DALLAS -- (June 22, 2006) -- Tyco Electronics Power Systems, Inc. today announced the release of the first power supply in its Compact Power Line (CPL) Platform, the CP1800AC52, a high-density and low-profile 48V power supply designed for minimal space utilization to maximize valuable space available for customers' revenue generating equipment while delivering maximum power. Built with nWaveTM, Tyco's digital-control technology using DSPs, the CP1800AC52 brings customers improved efficiency, reliability, density and control.

The CP1800AC52 is a 48V constant-power power supply that provides 1200W from 100 - 120Vac and 1800W from 200 - 240Vac; it is designed to operate from world-wide power sources and will deliver power with voltage surges up to 300Vac. The power supply sports an impressive power density of 20W/in3at 1800W and measures 1.66in (43mm) high by 4.0in (102mm) wide by 13.85in (352mm) deep.

The power supply provides a constant-power output from 48V - 58Vdc and the output voltage may be reset anywhere from 44V - 58Vdc either through analog or digital means. Thermal protection, dc output over-voltage, over-current and short-circuit protection, ac input over-voltage and under-voltage protection and variable-speed fans are all standard features. An auxiliary 5V output at 5W is also provided.

The CP1800AC52 comes with a full complement of analog alarms and control features, allowing it to be used in many standard applications. It can be used to provide digital information through communication busses such as PMBus/SMBus without the need for a separate microprocessor, making it applicable for mid-to-high-end server and storage applications. In addition, the CP1800AC52 includes an RS485 communications bus for use with Tyco battery-plant controllers as part of an energy reserve system for wireless, broadband, and telecom applications. The CP1800AC52 also includes 2250Vdc isolation from the main output to chassis and signal lines so that it can be used in PoE applications.

The CP1800AC52 power supply may be imbedded into the end-use application or used with the complementary 1U CP Shelf that supports up to four power supplies. The CP Shelf has dimensions of 1.66in (43mm) high by 16.8in (427mm) wide by 16.2in (412mm) deep. Movable mounting ears allow it to be used in flush or mid-mount applications and it may also be removed to allow the shelf to be imbedded directly into the end-use equipment chassis.

"Customers looking for standard power solutions as opposed to initiating a custom development will find the flexible and scalable CPL Platform to be a viable and economical alternative" says Sabi Varma, vice president, marketing and R&D at Tyco Electronics Power Systems, Inc.
