Handyman Matters of Piedmont has been working on a community outreach event for a local couple that was forced out of their home until repairs were made. Both Ed, now ill with cancer, and Virginia, suffering from diabetes, had had extensive medical procedures along with extended hospital stays, which put their home maintenance projects on hold. “We are honored to help out this family, getting them back in their home is the main priority for me. There have been many companies coming together to help this couple in need and we couldn’t be more thrilled that it has come together this way,” says Steve Simons, owner of Handyman Matters of Alexandria & Piedmont, VA. Below is a list of all of the companies helping out for this project:
• Round Hill United Methodist Church – Volunteer labor
• Handyman Matters Piedmont/Alexandria – Kitchen renovation project/ADA Doors/ Front door/Laundry room
• Suncrest Builders – bathroom remodel
• Handyman Matters Sterling– Handicap ramp
• Davenport Insulation – Attic and floor insulation
• Painting by Rick – Interior painting
• Loudoun Valley Floors – Furnish and install flooring
• RHUMC Volunteers – Exterior painting
• Home Depot – Landscaping
• Temp A Tron HVAC – HVAC
Three professional contractors will be completing the project, Steve Simons, local franchise owner of Handyman Matters of Piedmont and Alexandria, Joe Sebastian, local franchise owner of Handyman Matters of Sterling and John Cantrell of Suncrest Builder in Leesburg. All three are working together to oversee the renovations of the property, with both professional and volunteer assistance from congregants of Round Hill United Methodist Church and the local community.
“A key component of our franchise charter is community service. When I was informed of the Thomas’ plight I knew right away it was an opportunity to give something back to the communities we serve,” said Steve Simons of Handyman Matters.
Their home, which through the years had adequately served their needs, is now largely unsuitable: it was in poor repair, filled with years’ worth of cast-off belongings of extended family, and in need extensive adaptations if it were to accommodate the needs of two ailing and elderly residents. Affording the repairs and accommodations that would make their home safe, sound and secure was beyond their reach. And that’s where three professional contractors have come in to join forces and help get the Thomas’ back in their home.
