TOMAHAWK, Wis.--Dec. 9, 2013--The Plum Creek Foundation recently awarded a $2,000 grant to HAVEN, Inc., a secure shelter for victims of domestic violence or abuse and their children. The grant will help fund the organization’s “Security for the Shelter” project, which aims to replace and install new security cameras and equipment for the building.

HAVEN provides free services to Lincoln County families and friends affected by domestic violence and assault including emergency transportation, shelter housing, support groups, community education and a 24-hour crisis line. The organization serves approximately 300 people annually.

The organization has operated out of its current building since 2011. According to Judy Woller, executive director, the current security equipment has many functioning problems and is too outdated to repair. The goal is to replace the old equipment and install four more cameras and a large monitor, which will improve the safety and security of residents and staff.

“It is important for our residents and staff to feel safe and secure at HAVEN,” said Woller. “Thanks to the help of the Plum Creek Foundation, we can replace and upgrade our security system to better serve our residents and clients in need.”

Additional funding for the project was contributed via private donations and a grant from Housing and Urban Development and through proceeds from the organization’s weekly popcorn and lemonade sales during local summer concerts. Individuals interested in donating can contact HAVEN at (715) 536-1300.

Founded in 1979 as a free community service, HAVEN (Household Abuse Victims Emergency Network) provides a safe and confidential environment to empower survivors of domestic abuse and assault through sheltering, advocacy and education. For more information, visit www.HavenInc.org.
