Geneva, 12 June 2014 – Football fans on select airlines will now be able to follow their country’s matches as they fly during this summer’s World Cup thanks to OnAir inflight connectivity. Passengers will have access to live ticker updates as they fly across the world. The tournament is set to be the biggest, most widely-followed single sporting event in the world; supporters no longer need to worry about missing out on any of the live action while they are flying.
Thanks to OnAir’s latest Internet feature, Emirates, ANA and Philippines Airlines will give passengers free access to the World Cup zone during the peak travelling months of June and July. The service, accessed through the inflight Wi-Fi portal, provides text updates of every match direct to passenger’s personal electronic devices (PEDs).
“We are delighted to be using the Internet OnAir portal to provide live ticker updates to football fans travelling with our airline customers,” said François Rodriguez, Director of Strategy and Marketing of OnAir. “These airlines can now share the excitement of this fabulous sporting event with their passengers, as they fly. The service has been designed to suit the trend of passengers using two screens; digital natives can check the scores whenever they like on one screen while taking part in the other activities provided onboard on another.”
OnAir has designed the World Cup zone so that it works equally well on all PEDs, including laptops, tablets and smartphones. The feed will show all essential match data including team names, status of the match, details of each goal, bookings, and substitutions.
“The fan base for the World Cup is huge,” continued Rodriguez. “32 nations from every continent will play a total of 64 matches in 12 cities across Brazil. Whether passengers are making their way to Brazil or just happen to be flying while their country is playing, this live feed will inform them of vital goals and the late drama that inevitably accompanies World Cup matches. In future, interactive features will become available for passengers to share comments and emotions about their favourite teams during other major sporting events.”
OnAir inflight connectivity is available throughout the world, thanks to OnAir’s unique networks of authorizations from over 100 countries and more than 375 roaming agreements with mobile network operators.
