Good Sam Calls Ocean Lakes A “Top Extended Stay RV Park,” Recommends Park For Its Convenient Oceanfront Location And Great Amenities

Myrtle Beach, SC, United States., December 11, 2013 - (PressReleasePoint) - As winter roars up the East Coast, a lucky few are already preparing to escape the cold and stress of northern winters in their RVs. As they head for Florida, many of them will be making Myrtle Beach their halfway stop along the drive.  Word is spreading among RV owners that the Grand Strand is a great place to break the tedium of the north to south trek with a few days of layover, and their top pick on the coast  for that break is Ocean Lakes Family Campground.

Heading south right before New Years, many have discovered the fun and excitement of  Ocean Lakes annual Polar Bear Plunge on Dec. 31. This spectacle for charity is not as rough on participants as Polar Plunges farther up north. Myrtle Beach air temperatures are usually in the high 50s on New year's Eve, while the warmth of the sun makes days feel even milder. In addition, the Gulf Stream moderates the ocean temperatures as it slides right by Ocean Lakes' one mile of sandy beach. Still it can be a challenging plunge with the water temperature hovering around 70 degrees.

But it's all for a good cause as the event serves to kick off Ocean Lakes year-long effort to collect and donate food to the less fortunate. Polar Plunge participants are asked to contribute a non-perishable item when they sign up to plunge and spectators often join in the fun with donations as well. All food is then donated to a local food bank.

Ocean Lakes was recently named one of the "Top Extended Stay RV Parks" by the prestigious Good Sam Travel Guide and Campground Directory. Good Sam applauded Ocean Lakes' long stretch of private beach and its host of amenities. The campground has 3,447 campsites — 893 of which are large and pull-through to accommodate the largest RVs. It also offers all the comforts of home — WiFi, morning trash pick up, and a grocery store on site, plus amenities that include scheduled activities for children, laundromat, a mini golf course, and an indoor pool.

Ocean Lakes is a great place to stay any time of the year. The Campground is known nationwide for an exciting calendar of events offered nearly every month, including one of the East Coast's best Bluegrass Festivals, three fun-filled Halloween Weekends with on-site trick or treating, and the perfect winter break — February's Beach n’ Boogie Festival.

Ocean Lakes is conveniently located near all the activities and restaurants along the Grand Strand. A short drive from the campground is the area's top festival entertainment complex, Broadway at the Beach, a one-stop spot for all kinds of family fun. From live shows to shopping to amusements, Broadway has something for everyone. Live entertainment this winter includes "Hot Jersey Nights,” a tribute to the music of the legendary Four Seasons singing group at the Palace Theater, and Legends in Concert, a celebrity tribute show out of Las Vegas. In addition, there are over 100 unique shops and numerous restaurants (some of which feature the family-friendly game of Team Trivia). It's also home to amusements like Ripley's Aquarium, WonderWorks, MagiQuest, and BigD Theater. New Year's Eve is a big event at Broadway at the Beach with a DJ in Celebrity Square and parties at numerous restaurants and clubs including Hard Rock Cafe, Senor Frogs and other popular hot spots. The night is made even more special with a fireworks display over Lake Broadway.
