HiSoftware to support new accessibility organization launched at this week's CSUN 29th Annual International Technology and Persons with Disabilities Conference
March 19, 2014; Nashua, NH – HiSoftware, a leading provider of compliance and security solutions, today announced it is a Founding Member and supporter of the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP), which officially launched at the CSUN 29th Annual International Technology and Persons with Disabilities Conference in San Diego, California this week.
The challenges of building capacity in the profession of accessibility have existed for far too long. We need skilled professionals at every level of an organization that understand the needs for and pathway toward accessible technology and content. The existing group of professionals and organizations committed to accessibility for persons with disabilities is seeking a means to grow both recognition for this profession and expand the ranks of people to support the efforts globally.
The goal of the IAAP is to connect individuals, students and organizations globally to gather, share experiences, and contribute to the advancement of the accessibility profession. IAAP is distributing two newsletters and is launching a series of online resources and a robust online community to facilitate the exchange of information among the membership. In the future, the association will be rolling out more educational offerings as well as a certification program.
“We are extremely pleased to have HiSoftware as a Founding Member of our organization. We greatly appreciate their support in launching this new organization and their dedication to the Accessibility Profession,” said David Dikter, Chief Executive Officer of IAAP.
“Our goal in joining IAAP is to improve the level of skills, knowledge, and professionalism in the accessibility community. While HiSoftware has been very careful in bringing together the right combination of these qualities to serve our customers, we believe it is just as important to help set a clear bar throughout the industry,” said Ken Nakata, Director of HiSoftware’s Accessibility Consulting Practice and a former US Department of Justice attorney who helped shape the government’s policies for the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Those interested in getting involved in IAAP should visit www.accessibilityassociation.org to join the online community, sign up for newsletters and learn about membership options.
