L’ANSE, Mich.--Dec. 26, 2013--The Plum Creek Foundation recently awarded a $5,000 grant to the Hornet Park Improvement Group to help fund the installation of lights at the Hornet Park Athletic Complex.

The new lighting system will allow the complex to host nighttime sporting events and activities. According to Chairman James Waara, this addition will offer a more flexible game and practice schedule, creating more opportunities for teams to play.

“By installing the lights, we can offer more athletic opportunities to our students and residents,” said Waara. “Thanks to the help of the Plum Creek Foundation, we can host more events to help bring the community together.”

The Hornet Park Athletic Complex was built in 2008 to accommodate L’Anse-area school athletic programs. It is currently used by local football, track, soccer and baseball teams. It also serves as a community walking trail and school forest.

The grant will go directly towards purchasing and installing the new light system, which will be implemented in spring 2014.

The mission of the Hornet Park Improvement Group is to improve the health and education of students and the community.
