Jackson Hospitality discusses several tips how hotels can be prepared for natural disasters that hit throughout the year
Birmingham, A.L. United States., March 9, 2014 - (PressReleasePoint) – The polar vortex, a term heard over and over again this year as parts of the country saw the worst winter weather in recent history. One hotel management company based in Alabama saw first-hand what the polar vortex delivered to the south and discussed several tips for hotels that may be inundated with guests when Mother Nature strikes again.
“These past few months have been very hard for the south. Not accustomed to frigid weather and ice storms, a lot of our area hotels were booked at full capacity with residents who had the misfortune of losing power and heating during the winter storms. Although our hotels were prepared for the overflow, we offered our support and guidance to ensure that when weather like this strikes again, they will be adequately prepared,” said Neal Jackson.
Following the ice storms, the hotel management company briefed their hotels on how to be prepared for further ice storms or worse, a hurricane which is also common in the southern states.
Jackson explained these few tips can make a world of difference for local residence who are hit the hardest:
Accept pets for evacuees.
Be more flexible with cancelation policy.
Keep various charge cords on hand for guests who didn’t bring them.
Don’t charge extra for rooms during emergencies.
Provide extra amenities.
Allow guests to stay in the lobby if there is nowhere else to go.
Always remember we are in the hospitality business first.
Hotels should always be prepared for emergencies and have emergency supplies on hand. Batteries, flashlights. Bottled water.
“We hope that with this information, our hotels and hotels in the surrounding areas will be better prepared for any type of disaster in the future,” added Jackson.
