Iglooo, India's first price comparison website designed exclusively for books, was formally launched today after a successful private beta.

Iglooo (www.iglooo.in) simplifies the process of finding and buying books by searching all of India's leading online bookstores at once and consolidating the results on a single page. This gives the customers an opportunity to compare prices from various stores at a quick glance, with an option to complete the purchase from the respective store(s) there and then.

"Not many people are aware that price of the latest bestseller can vary from one store to the other", said Kunal Dua, founder Iglooo. "Dan Brown's latest book The Lost Symbol, for example, is available for Rs. 450 or Rs. 1500, depending upon which edition you buy and where." Iglooo will unearth all these results and let you buy the book you want, at the price you want. It's also a great time saver while tracking down those rare, out-of-print works, as it saves you the hassle of going to each store and looking them up individually.

How does it work?

Iglooo finds books across various stores using techniques not dissimilar to those used by Google and other search engines. "The difference is that we do it in real time so as to get the latest prices" explained Dua. Responding to a query regarding their future plans, Dua indicated that Iglooo will look to add more and more book stores in the future. Plans to partner with some or all of the stores so as to offer better and faster results are also being discussed.
