Ahmedabad, Gujarat, December 10, 2013 -(PressReleasePoint)- Leading researchers from different areas of cognitive science, such as cognitive or computational psychology, philosophy of mind, neuroscience, artificial intelligence, anthropology and so on will come together at Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) to throw new light on the importance of studying ‘Emotion’ and ‘Action’ in the area of Cognitive Science. The international conference “Cognition, Emotion and Action” is organized by the Cognitive Science program at IITGN December from 6 to 8, 2013.

Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Bihar, Prof. Janak Pandey who was instrumental in setting up the first ever center for Cognitive Sciences in India at Allahabad University will inaugurate the event. Prof Thomas Metzinger of Philosophisches Seminar, Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz and Prof Tom Albright of SALK Institute for Biological Studies will be delivering the keynote address. Various international experts from countries like US, Canada, UK, Netherland, Germany, Hungary and France and others will also take part in the conference.

‘Emotion’ and ‘Action’ are functions of emerging studies in the area of cognitive science. Talking about the importance of more understanding in these emerging areas, IITGN Prof Meera Sunny who is the convener of the Conference said, “Traditionally ‘emotion’ has been neglected for a long time in the area of cognitive psychology as they were thought to be too subjective to be a part of scientific study. However, researchers now agree that most of our other cognitive functions are centered around our actions and emotions.”

“Through the conference we call for a better integration of research in "Action and Emotion with other cognitive processes,” added Prof Sunny.

The conference has accepted more than 70 papers for talks and poster presentations from across the world. The first edition of the conference in 2010 which were focused on ‘Experience and Creativity’ had participants from 12 different countries. “The first conference was quite successful and has added to the popularity. This year we are receiving papers from various institutes across the world, even when we haven't publicized them much,” said Prof Sunny.

The conference will be inaugurated on the 6th at 9:30 am in A Block Auditorium.
