The LGUs will also get incentive packages from PLDT and Smart Communications worth up to P1.5 million each.

Eight municipalities in Iloilo and Capiz recently received the Seal of Good Education Governance from Synergeia Foundation for their outstanding efforts in delivering basic education to their constituents.

The towns are Alimodian, Cabatuan, Concepcion, Lambunao, Miag-ao, and Mina in Iloilo; and Dao and Ivisan in Capiz. They are among the 24 cities and municipalities from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao who received the recognition. The LGUs will also get incentive packages from PLDT and Smart Communications, worth up to P1.5 million each.

Arthur Defensor Sr., Dao Executive Assistant to the Mayor Joselito Escutin, USAID Philippines Director of Education Brian Levey, Concepcion Mayor Millard Villanueva, Ivisan Councilor Felipe Yap, Cabatuan Mayor Ronilo Caspe, Iloilo provincial administrator Dr. Raul Banias, and Synergeia President and CEO Milwida Guevara.

Established in 2002, Synergeia is a coalition of individuals and organizations working closely with about 400 LGUs to improve the delivery of basic education to Filipino children.

To boost the capability of seal recipients to improve education in their localities, PLDT and Smart will provide technology packages suited to the LGUs’ respective circumstances and needs. Among the incentives are the provision of InfoCast, a web-based solution that will allow the LGUs to broadcast announcements and receive feedback via text message.

Another incentive for LGUs in far-flung areas is the Smart School-in-a-Bag, which contains a solar panel to serve schools without electricity, mobile devices, curriculum-based educational content, teacher training, monitoring, and evaluation.

Eighty percent of the 51 barangays in our municipality are in the hinterlands. Through the Smart School-in-a-Bag, the children will have access to modern technology. Our schools are very excited to get the same privilege now being enjoyed only by those near the town center,” said Alimodian Mayor Geefre Alonsabe.

“The Seal of Good Education Governance is heartwarming, and will inspire us local chief executives to work harder. We believe that education is the best weapon to improve the future of our children,” he added.
