The 91th birthday of Her Holiness Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi will be celebrated on March 21, 2014 in India and around the world in more than 150 countries. As one of the greatest spiritual leaders of our age, Shri Mataji’s extraordinary teachings and influence are still felt to this day.
In the year 1923, on 21 March at 12 noon, Shri Mataji, our most Beloved and Divine Mother and Guru, was born in Chhindwara, in Central India. In her youth, she stayed in the ashram of Mahatma Gandhi and was involved with the struggle for Indian independence. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi founded Sahaja Yoga on the 5th of May, 1970 on a lonely beach at Nargol (about 150km from Mumbai), after pondering on the many faceted problems confronting the human beings.
Since 1970 Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi had kept a busy schedule, travelling around the world to teach the techniques of Sahaja yoga meditation to people from all walks of life. Sahaja yoga is always offered free of charge.
She was invited by the United Nations for four consecutive years to speak about the ways and means to achieve world peace. In 1995, Nirmala Srivastava was awarded an honorary doctorate in Cognitive and Parapsychological Sciences by the Ecological University of Bucharest, Romania. Shri Mataji left her heavenly abode on 23rd February 2011. Shri Mataji's Maha Samadhi is at Nirmal Dham, New Delhi.
