International omnium races kick off 2014 Elite Track Nationals

Rock Hill, S.C. (August 12, 2014) -- The first three events of the two-day, six-event international omnium kicked off competition Tuesday at the 2014 USA Cycling Elite Track National Championships at the Giordana Velodrome in Rock Hill, S.C. Bobby Lea (Mertztown, Pa./Custom Velo) and Jennifer Valente (San Diego, Calif./TWENTY16 Pro Cycling) both won two of the three events in their respective divisions.

Lea, the defending champion, took wins in both the individual pursuit and the elimination race, and placed third in the scratch race. Alexandre Darville (Santa Barbara, Calif./Bissell Development Cycling) sprinted away from Nicholas Rogers (Philadelphia, Pa./ p/b Felt Bicycles) to take the victory in the men's 15-kilometer scratch race. Lea won a pack sprint to take third.

Like Lea, Valente claimed wins in the individual pursuit and elimination race, and took fourth in the scratch race. Jessica Prinner (South Elgin, Ill./Colavita-Fine Cooking) took the win in the 10-kilometer scratch race ahead of Kate Wilson (Los Angeles, Calif./CCF Racing Team) and Bailey Semian (Mertztown, Pa./Team TIBCO II).

Competition continues Wednesday with the conclusion of the men's and women's international omnium, as well as finals in the men's 1km time trial and women's 500m time trial.
