Each summer, Prospect, one of Britain’s best-read political journals, holds a competition to find the policy ideas which have gained the most traction in the political arena over the last 12 months. The awards are designed not only to highlight the boldest thinkers, but also to show how organisations have set about winning support in government, and used traditional and social media to get their message to the public.
This year’s award ceremony was held at the Institute of Directors, and was well attended by think tank researchers, the media and, for the first time, by IoD members. The Director General, Simon Walker, welcomed the audience, telling them that the IoD was a natural venue for the event as it had, for over a century, been “at the heart of the policy debate on everything from corporate governance to shale gas, and even the space industry”.
The IoD sponsored the important UK Economic and Financial Think Tank of the Year category, which was won this year by the Institute for Fiscal Studies for their work investigating the Government’s accounts. The IFS also won the overall Think Tank of the Year Award, which was presented by Walker.
