Commonwealth Games England this morning revealed the final squad of 12 to compete in Glasgow this summer. It was also confirmed that Jade Clarke would take on the role as captain for the Games with the experienced mid-courter stepping in to replace the injured Pamela Cookey.

The squad has a mix of experience and youth with five of the team having won 50 caps or more. Following an impressive end to the domestic campaign there has been a call-up for young shooter Helen Housby while Geva Mentor takes her place after returning to the fold fresh from winning the ANZ Championship with Melbourne Vixens.

The players selected to represent England at the 2014 Commonwealth Games are as follows;

Jade Clarke (c), Sara Bayman (vc), Ama Agbeze, Eboni Beckford-Chambers, Kadeen Corbin, Sasha Corbin, Rachel Dunn, Stacey Francis, Serena Guthrie, Joanne Harten, Helen Housby, Geva Mentor

The competition gets underway for England on Friday 25th with a clash against Wales. The next day a mouth-watering tie with Australia awaits in what will be the first clash between teams currently ranked in the world’s top four.

South Africa, Trinidad & Tobago and Barbados complete an extremely competitive Pool B. The semi-finals and finals are scheduled to be played over the weekend of August 2nd/3rd.
