Jiadé Organic Cosmetics Inc. first Personal Care Producer in Canada to attain coveted USDA Organic Certification
A Port Coquitlam Company, Jiadé Organic Cosmetics Inc., has attained organic certification under USDA standards this month. The full line of organic skin care products is certified organic just like foods.
Jiadé Organic Cosmetics, a young Port Coquitlam based producer of skin care products has been offering organic cosmetics for little over two years now. From inception, the company was formed to meet the most stringent requirements of safety and quality.
The Company is the first in Canada to attain the USDA certification for its line of cosmetics products.
As of August 12th, this was culminated by Oregon Tilth’s certifying the Company as an organic manufacturer.
Recent evidence shows that many companies are selling personal care products labelled as organic, but actually contain few, if any organic ingredients. Jiadé’s management feels that the accreditation re-enforces the Company’s strict standards of integrity and truth in labelling of organic skin care products.
Currently, regulations in Canada and the US permit for the deceptive labelling of personal care products as organic. Neither country has either the regulations or framework in place to remove deceptively labelled products from the market.
“We have always produced products that meet the USDA standards, the certification is just official affirmation of our commitment to the consumer” said Eva Savova, the company’s VP of Technical and Operations. “ We promise the consumer truly organic products. We have confirmed that our minimum standards would meet those of the USDA. This company was started with the idea that skin care products are actually foods for the skin, and when labelled as organic, should be just like organic foods – and should meet the same requirements”
“As one of the first personal care producers in Canada to achieve USDA certification for its entire product line, we strive to be a leader in the organic industry” said Walter Dullemond, the company’s president. “We’re committed to staying ahead of the industry, and, rather than waiting until certification becomes a requirement, we have chosen to set an example to the rest.”
According to regulations, organic products must be grown free from synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, pesticides, herbicides or fungicides. Organic products may not contain synthetic ingredients and must be processed in such a way to prevent contamination of non-organic products. Organic products are certified from field to finished product. Since the regulations were written for agricultural crops and foods, Jiadé’s products had to meet all the requirements of foods.
The company’s line of certified organic skin care products are sold through specialty stores and boutiques in North America, as well as through various on-line stores, including its own website www.jiadecosmetics.com.
Jiadé is a member of the Canadian Health Food Association and the Organic Trade Association.
