July is National UV Safety Month and ParentYourParents.com Offers Information
The #1 Source for Elder Care Information will be posting blogs and articles relating to the importance of UV Safety to Prevent Skin Cancer and Eye Damage
“As the weather warms up, we are all spending more time outdoors and in the sun. Now is the perfect time to get the word out about the importance of UV safety. Being exposed to ultraviolet (UV) radiation is the main cause of skin cancer. Additionally, UV rays can hurt your vision and cause eye damage. That is why we felt it was so important to pass along valuable UV Safety tips and information to our visitors this month,” said Karen Frye, CFO and co-founder of ParentYourParents.com.
Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States. Ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun are the main cause of skin cancer. UV damage can also cause wrinkles and blotchy skin.
Anyone can get skin cancer, but the risk is greatest for people with:
• White or light-colored skin with freckles
• Blond or red hair
• Blue or green eyes
Easy steps to help prevent skin cancer:
• Stay out of the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
• Use sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher.
• Cover up with long sleeves and a hat.
• Check your skin regularly for any changes.
Over time, the effects of UV rays may help cause a number of eye problems such as:
• Macular Degeneration
• Cataract
• Pterygium
• Skin cancer around the eyelids is also linked to prolonged UV exposure.
• Corneal Sunburn
