CASUARINA/NSW (August 12th/2018): Junior Longboard and Logger semi-finalists had their work cut out for them this morning at Cabarita Point on the Tweed as a brisk northerly wind created bumpy wave faces on day two of the 2018 SAE Group Australian Surf Festival.

A forecast southerly change kicked in mid-morning, just in time for round one of the open women’s division, before Junior Logger, Junior Women’s and Junior Men’s finals were run.

In the Junior Logger division final, Aiden Feeley used his entire bag of tricks to go one better than his runner-up finish last year, scoring a heat total of 15.50 points (out of a possible 20 points) to take out the title. He then backed his first win up with a last minute victory in the Junior Men’s Longboard final, nailing down a 7.25 point ride in the dying seconds to get the double.

Another Queensland, Emily Lethbridge was the dominant female junior of the first two days of competition and nailed a big win in the Junior Women’s Longboard final with a 10.20 point heat total (out of a possible 20 points).

Lethbridge surfed more heats than anyone over the first two days and made the final of the Junior Logger Division to cap off a magic campaign.

The first round of the Open Men’s Longboard division hit the water after lunch in good conditions and will continue tomorrow morning at the likely venue of Cabarita Point.
