The Australian Junior Women’s Road Team have impressed on foreign soil as they prepare for the UCI Junior Road World Championships.

In the first outing as a team, the trio competed in a 40 km kermesse in Bredene Belgium, which was a resounding success with the girls sweeping the podium.

Despite heavy rain prior to the start, the race was conducted in dry but windy conditions.

The Australian girls dictated the pace in the opening laps as Macey Stewart won the first and second primes while Alex Manly won the third intermediate sprint.

Anna-Leeza Hull then attacked and got a gap on the field, which quickly built to 45 seconds.

Macey and Alex controlled the bunch like seasoned pro’s, shutting down any chase attempts.

With five laps to go, a Belgian rider attacked in an attempt to bridge to the solo Anna-Leeza.

Both Macey and Alex covered the attack then succeeded in dropping the Belgian rider. The reigning team pursuit world champions showed their talents are not restricted to the track, as they bridged to Anna-Leeza coming to the bell lap.

The three Aussies worked together extending the gap to 1:07 by the finish, with Anna-Leeza
Hull first, Macey Stewart second and Alex Manly third.

The team now heads to the Junior Tour Sittard in Holland on August 30 and 31st.
