Dr. Alain E. Kaloyeros, professor, senior vice president and CEO of the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering of the University at Albany, and Nehme Frangie, vice president of partnerships and operations at Vicarious Visions, Inc., received the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce's highest honors at its 110th Annual Dinner held on March 10 at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany and attended by more than 1,000 members of the region's business community.

Dr. Kaloyeros was presented with the Envoy Salute, which recognizes an individual whose vision, leadership and contributions have made a positive and significant impact on the economic vitality of the region.

Frangie was given the Arthur R. Kapner Spirit of the Chamber Award, which is presented to an individual whose dedicated service and efforts have brought credit to the Chamber and enhanced the Chamber's standing in the community. The Spirit of the Chamber Award is named in honor of Arthur R. Kapner, who died in June 2004 after five decades of volunteer service to the organization, including a stint as president of the Chamber's board of directors.

"We are truly honored to recognize Dr. Kaloyeros and Nehme Frangie for their outstanding efforts toward serving, understanding and enhancing our community," said Ken Desmond, vice president of The Desmond Hotel & Conference Center and 2010 chair of the Chamber's board of directors. "Both of these individuals exemplify unparalleled leadership and unwavering commitment. We are grateful that they have chosen to share their time, talent and knowledge here in the Capital Region, and to further the development of the Chamber and Tech Valley."

"On behalf of the faculty, students, staff and partners of the University at Albany College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering, I am both honored and humbled to accept the Envoy Salute, especially as the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber, under the leadership of President and CEO Mark Eagan, continues its longstanding reputation as a leading voice for business throughout Tech Valley," Kaloyeros said. "The Chamber truly epitomizes the unique partnership between leaders in government, technology, business and academia that has enabled the world's premier location for nanotechnology education, innovation and economic investment and growth, and showcases the pioneering vision of New York's elected officials, as embodied by Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and Governor David Paterson, and the steadfast support of its business community."

"I am deeply honored to be recognized by the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber with such a meaningful award," Frangie said. "Through the Chamber, I have been able to meet insightful and creative people and connect with other members to learn more about ways we can all give back to the community."
