Vienna/Oslo, December 16, 2013 – Kapsch TrafficCom will supply on-board units (OBUs) for Norway’s electronic toll collection, AutoPASS, starting in 2014. The Norwegian Public Road Administration, who is responsible for the Norwegian public road network, is currently adapting the standards for on-board units to the European Norm EN15509 and will replace the native AutoPASS OBUs that are presently used. Together with Norbit, Kapsch is one of two companies that successfully demonstrated its experience and technology in the tender.

Starting in the first quarter of 2014, Kapsch will deliver the first batch of its on-board units and the total quantity is to be delivered over the next four years. The precise extent of the share Kapsch will have in the delivery will be determined in consecutive tenders under the life time of the frame contract. “We are particularly pleased about this first order from Norway”, declares André Laux, Executive Board Member of Kapsch TrafficCom. “Norway is an important strategic market to us. The trust shown by the Norwegian Road Administration underlines our excellence in the development and production of OBUs.” The OBUs designated for AutoPASS are produced by Kapsch’s own subsidiary, Kapsch Components, which is located in Vienna.
