Kazuri fair trade jewellery is full of bright beautiful colours. Kazuri is made in Nairobi, its vibrant appeal puts it at the front of summer fashion 2010

Find Jewellery have announced the launch of a new jewellery range. Kazuri Beads have just been added to the website. This jewellery range has been chosen for its gorgeous colours and fair trade credentials. Kazuri jewellery is made just outside Nairobi in Kenya by a collective of over women. The company was founded by Lady Susan Wood who was married to Michael Wood the founder of the African Research and Medical Foundation and Flying Doctors service in Africa. Kazuri beads began as a small project but is now a comparatively large organisation employing around 400 local women selling fair trade Jewellery.

Kazuri beads are handmade. The beads are formed and fired before being glazed in a number of different colours and then fired again before they are strung. Each part of this process is undertaken by the specially trained women that work in the factory. Most of the women that work in the factory are single mothers who were struggling to find work during the constantly high unemployment rates in Nairobi. Kazuri provide medical care for their employees and close family members, giving them a chance to change their lives for the better. Their positive attitude towards employment has gained Kazuri Jewellery entrance to the British Association for Fair Trade Shops (B.A.F.T.S.) and the World Fair Trade Organisation (W.F.T.O.).

In Swahili Kazuri means 'small and beautiful' and the jewellery that they produce most certainly is, so they are proud to welcome this trend setting new brand to Find Jewellery.
