KCI welcomes John Kurgan as Transportation Market Leader

KCI welcomes G. John Kurgan, PE, as Transportation Market Leader. Formerly Chief Operating Officer at Michael Baker Corporation, Kurgan will lead business development efforts within the transportation design and construction engineering/inspection disciplines with a goal of growing market share within our existing geographical footprint and beyond.

With more than 42 years of experience, Kurgan’s career focus has been in the transportation industry. He has been responsible for leading numerous multi-million dollar highway, bridge and rail projects throughout the United States. Kurgan has written dozens of articles or been quoted in various trade publications and journals covering transit, bridges, construction management, design/build delivery, and highways.

“John is recognized nationwide as a leader within the transportation industry,” said KCI President Nathan J. Beil, PE, W.RE. “Through this experience, reputation, and significant industry service, he has established contacts with all of the state departments of transportation where KCI has a design and construction presence, and with many agencies in which we hope to forge new relationships.

Kurgan earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from The Pennsylvania State University College of Engineering, which honored him in 2011 as an Outstanding Engineering Alumni. He is a registered professional engineer in West Virginia, Arizona, Delaware and Pennsylvania. Kurgan was recognized as Engineer of the Year by the Engineers Society of Western Pennsylvania and received an award of merit from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Pennsylvania.

He is an active member and past president of both the American Council of Engineering Companies of Pennsylvania and the American Road and Transportation Builders Association, who presented him with the Guy Kelcey Award in 2009. In addition, he is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers; the Design Professional Coalition; the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association; and the Transportation Research Board.
