Missouri Operation Lifesaver: Rick Mooney, 573-230-3284, rick@mooneyconsulting.com

Kansas City, Mo., August 19, 2014.  The Kansas City Southern Railway Company (KCSR) and Odessa, Missouri Police Department will host an Officer on a Train event on Wednesday, August 20 to promote public safety at railroad crossings in Odessa.  The event will begin at 10:45 a.m. with a safety briefing in the parking lot of the Odessa Police Department at 101 North Second Street.  Missouri Operation Lifesaver coordinator Rick Mooney will be present and available for interviews.

In an Officer on a Train event, KCSR works with local law enforcement to bring officers into a locomotive cab for a unique, real-time perspective of motorist and pedestrian activity as a train moves through the community.  Meanwhile, other law enforcement officers are stationed along the railroad right of way, watching for crossing and trespasser violations and issuing citations.

KCSR is a staunch advocate of Operation Lifesaver, Inc., a non-profit organization founded in 1972 and dedicated to rail safety public education.  Operation Lifesaver has partnered with federal safety agencies and the nation’s railroads for the See Tracks? Think Train! campaign aimed at raising awareness about risky pedestrian and driver behavior around railroad tracks.

Headquartered in Kansas City, Mo., Kansas City Southern (KCS) (NYSE: KSU) is a transportation holding company that has railroad investments in the U.S., Mexico and Panama.  Its primary U.S. holding is KCSR, serving the central and south central U.S.  Its international holdings include Kansas City Southern de Mexico, S.A. de C.V., serving northeastern and central Mexico and the port cities of Lázaro Cárdenas, Tampico and Veracruz, and a 50 percent interest in Panama Canal Railway Company, providing ocean-to-ocean freight and passenger service along the Panama Canal.  KCS’ North American rail holdings and strategic alliances are primary components of a NAFTA Railway system, linking the commercial and industrial centers of the U.S., Mexico and Canada.
