NEW ORLEANS (February 13, 2014) On Saturday, Feb. 15, TNT analyst Kenny Smith and The AIM High Foundation are teaming with Feed The Children to present “The Kenny Smith Experience” to help New Orleans children and families in need. During the experience, three semi tractor-trailers full of food, essentials and Crocs shoes will be distributed to children families at Xavier University in New Orleans (1 Drexel Drive). The items will be distributed between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

This event is sponsored by the Aim High Foundation, George Shinn Foundation, Sean Payton’s Play it Forward Foundation, and Crocs.  Kenny Smith will be on site to help and the event will be featured on TNT during the NBA All-Star weekend telecast.  Other guests include actress Laura Bell Bundy, Xavier President Dr. Norman Francis and former Surgeon General of the United States Dr. Regina Benjamin.

Feed The Children partner agencies Gert Town Community Development Center, Baptist Friendship House, Apex Youth Center and City of Love have identify families who will receive the food, essentials and Crocs shoes. Each family will receive a 25-pound box of food, 10-pound box of personal care items and AVON products. The boxes are designed to help a family of four, for up to one week. Families will also benefit from health screenings during a health fair, a kids zone for children and other services.

More than one in three children living in New Orleans (42 percent) is considered impoverished. The number of impoverished children in Louisiana (299,779) could fill New Orleans Arena more than 16 and a half times.

“We are so thankful to once again partner with Kenny Smith and The AIM High Foundation to provide food and essentials to these families during All-Star weekend,” said Kevin Hagan, President and CEO for Feed The Children. “The efforts undertaken in the community by Kenny Smith, the Aim High Foundation, George Shinn Foundation, Sean Payton’s Play it Forward Foundation, and Crocs and all of the volunteers will further our mission to ensure no child or family goes to bed hungry.”
