Key Changes to ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code to be Highlighted in March 27 Webinar
ASME expert to discuss most important revisions planned for 2013 release of vital industry document that helps ensure boiler safety
Category:
IHS (NYSE: IHS), the leading global source of information and analytics, announced today that it is co-hosting a webinar on March 27 that will discuss the key revision to different sections of the 2013 ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC), a vital industry document that helps ensure safety and compliance in the design, installation and operation of boilers across diverse industries.
Nearly a century ago, the "Boiler Code" from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) was developed to establish standard rules for the construction of steam boilers and other pressure vessels. Born to promote safety through pressure integrity, it also furnished standards that any state could use for boilers installed within its borders. Today, the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) is used in over 70 countries, and is adopted (in whole or in part) by all 50 states and numerous municipalities and territories of the United States, and all of the provinces of Canada.
Engineers, designers, inspectors and others who use the Code on a daily basis are keenly interested in learning more about the revisions in the 2013 version of the BPVC scheduled for release in July. More than 1,300 attendees signed up for a January IHS-ASME webcast that highlighted many of the most important changes expected in the 2013 Boiler Code.
Based on feedback received from the January webinar, IHS and ASME are holding an update webcast to discuss the key revision to different sections of the Code. This webinar will provide valuable insights for those involved in the material selection, design, fabrication, examination, inspection, testing or certification of boilers, pressure vessels, transport tanks and nuclear components.
The March 27 webinar also will provide more information on the BPVC's transition to a two-year revision cycle and how the new cycle will impact the work of those who rely on the Code. Attendees on the forthcoming webinar also will learn about options for accessing the Code and about additional resources available to help better understand and interpret the BPVC.
Speakers on the March 27 event include Joseph S. Brzuszkiewicz, project engineering administrator with ASME. Mr. Brzuszkiewicz has been involved in the standards process in the Pressure Technology and Standardization Departments of the Codes and Standards Directorate for more than 30 years. In his current assignment he is responsible for all administrative matters involving the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. Mr. Brzuszkiewicz will be joined on the webinar by Andy Reese, senior manager-product design, at IHS.
