Kirkland & Ellis Adds Real Estate Lawyers in Chicago
7/6/2011
Kirkland & Ellis LLP is pleased to announce that experienced Chicago real estate lawyers Daniel J. Perlman and Jeffrey S. Rheeling have joined Kirkland as partners in the Chicago office. Mr. Perlman and Mr. Rheeling were previously with Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP.
"We are focused on increasing the breadth and depth of our real estate practice, and we are pleased to have secured two talented lawyers to further that goal," said Jeffrey C. Hammes, Chairman of Kirkland's Global Management Executive Committee.
Daniel Perlman, 50, was formerly the vice chairman of Paul Hastings' global real estate practice. Mr. Perlman's practice focuses particularly on fund and venture formation, conventional, securitized and mezzanine financing, loan workouts, sales and purchases of distressed loans, foreclosures, bankruptcies, commercial development and commercial acquisitions and dispositions. His clients have included pension funds and their advisors, foreign institutions, national developers and retailers, public and private real estate investment trusts, investment banks and hedge funds. Mr. Perlman has been lead counsel on a variety of real estate transactions, including a recently closed $450 million acquisition for Chicago-based Equity Lifestyle Properties.
Mr. Perlman has been recognized as a leading real estate lawyer by Chambers USA, America's Leading Lawyers for Business, The Legal 500 U.S. and The Best Lawyers in America.
"Kirkland's transactional platform and commitment to growing the real estate practice were very attractive. I look forward to collaborating with my new partners and contributing to the development of the group," said Mr. Perlman.
Jeffrey Rheeling, 44, was previously of counsel in the real estate department of Paul Hastings' Chicago office. Mr. Rheeling represents clients in connection with complex real estate transactions, including sales and dispositions, tax-deferred exchanges, development, financing, leasing and joint ventures for retail, office, industrial, multifamily and mixed-use properties.
In the past four months, Kirkland has brought on five partners with real estate-related experience, including Scott Berger and Jonathan Schechter in New York, and Edward Schneidman, William Levy and Kelly Ryan in Chicago.
