Kohler Collaborates with a Grateful Family to Say Thank You to a Helpful Neighborhood

KOHLER, Wis.– Sept. 17, 2011 – Kohler Power Systems today announces it has partnered with The Weather Channel to donate a standby generator to Harrah United Methodist Church of Harrah, Oklahoma, as part of The Weather Channel’s premiere episode of its new series Weathering Disaster. The 80 kilowatt, three-phase KOHLER® generator and automatic transfer switch were presented to the congregation on behalf of Sam and Mary Lou George as a thank you gift for the support and aid they received following the George’s home being destroyed by a tornado.

“When The Weather Channel and the series sponsor Farmers Insurance approached Kohler Power Systems about being part of the show and offering support, our overwhelming response was “Absolutely, how can we help?” said Dan Giampetroni, residential business manager for Kohler Power Systems.

When severe weather strikes and main power is lost, Kohler’s new standby generator – permanently installed adjacent to the church – will automatically turn on and power the multiple air conditioning units, refrigerators and lights, making it a fully functioning community center.

“Kohler Power Systems is honored to be a part of this incredible goodwill project and offer the community the assurance of peace of mind they will need when the next big storm hits,” said Jim Kukla, marketing manager for Kohler Industrial Business.

The George’s and Kohler Power Systems were featured in the premiere episode of Weathering Disaster on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011 at 8 p.m. Eastern Time.

The George Family:

Sam and Mary Lou George lost their home of 30 years in 2010 when a tornado ripped through their small community of Harrah, Oklahoma. Within moments of the tornado destroying their home, the community rallied to the George’s side to help them cope with the loss of their home by aiding in the clean up and rebuilding process. When asked to be part of the new Weathering Disaster series, the Georges wanted to give something back to the gracious community who had helped them heal from the devastation. Kohler Power Systems stepped in to provide a permanently installed standby generator system for the George’s church, to maintain the facility as a community center during area power outages and severe weather.
