Kontron Reports Record Revenue in 2011 (Jan 16, 2012)

Eching near Munich, January 16, 2012 -- Kontron AG, the globally leading provider of embedded computer systems, achieved a new revenue record in the 2011 financial year elapsed, on the basis of preliminary figures: despite the continuing difficult international environment, revenue of more than EUR 580 million in 2011 represents an approximately 14 percent year-on-year increase, thereby beating expectations. The final figures for the 2011 financial year will be published on March 21, 2012.

"Our consistent implementation of important measures has paid off, and we have continued to report further profitable growth," commented Ulrich Gehrmann, Kontron's CEO. These include strategic acquisitions, the ongoing expansion of the development team, further streamlining of structures and processes, and the extension of the product range to include so-called Advanced RISC Machine (ARM) architecture for particularly low-energy-consumption microprocessors deployed in mobile applications, which are experiencing a boom. "For 2012, too, we anticipate stable sales trends, with revenue 3 percent above or below the 2011 comparable figure of about EUR 570 million, which has been adjusted to reflect Malaysia," Gehrmann went on to comment.

This estimate no longer includes the approximately EUR 15 million of revenue from the Malaysian production subsidiary Kontron Design Manufacturing Services (KDMS). Kontron intends to transfer most of the KDMS assets to its strategic partner Plexus Corp. over the coming weeks.

This transaction underscores Kontron's efforts to focus its business on higher-margin systems and customer-specific solutions.

The Management Board regards Kontron as well on its way to further profit growth this year: "Uncertainties about the global economic situation make it currently impossible to be more precise," commented Gehrmann, "but we are assuming that we will further improve the EBIT operating margin in 2012."
