The Kyocera Museum of Art to Feature Special Exhibit of Shinya Nakamura Sculptures
The Kyocera Museum of Art was opened in 1998 in order to contribute to the promotion and invigoration of Southern Kyoto by providing a venue to share the Kyocera art collection with the community. The museum has previously held exhibitions featuring Pablo Picasso's 347 Series of copper plate etching prints, modern Japanese paintings, and an Ansel Adams photography exhibition. In 2007, a different exhibition of religiously themed Nakamura sculptures was held for the museum’s 6th Special Exhibit — which became the most popular of the Kyocera special exhibits up to that point.
About Shinya Nakamura
Pioneer of contemporary representational sculpture, Shinya Nakamura, is held in high esteem and was awarded Japan’s Order of Culture for his highly spiritual works of art such as the “Miserere” series which is kept at the Vatican Museum and the “Shaka Judai Deshi (The ten great disciples of the Buddha)” which was dedicated to the Yakushiji Temple in Nara, Japan. Nakamura’s sculptures depicting young children overflow with lyricism and resonate with a deeply cultural emotion that strikes a cord within the hearts of many Japanese.
