WACO, TX - Waco-based L-3 Platform Integration recently signed a lease doubling its current footprint at the Baylor Research and Innovation Collaborative (BRIC) to approximately 5,300 square feet.

L-3 currently maintains a staff of up to 20 engineers in a 2,800-square-foot engineering and research office in the BRIC. The company's collaborations with Baylor researchers include projects focused on the analysis of advanced aerospace composite materials and advanced technologies for aircraft communications systems.

The newly leased space will be staffed by up to 20 additional engineers and will support increased research activities.

"The BRIC has already proven to be a valuable research asset and we are pleased to increase our presence at this world-class facility," said Nick Farah, sector president of L-3 Platform Systems, which includes the L-3 Platform Integration division.

The L-3 expansion comes as especially good news to Dr. Truell Hyde, Baylor's vice provost for research and director of the Center for Astrophysics, Space Physics and Engineering Research (CASPER) at the BRIC. "It's encouraging when a major technology business already located in the BRIC sees the need to expand their space," he said. "It means the arrangement is working in a way that justifies their initial commitment and also expands the potential range of collaborative research projects with Baylor University. That's exciting. It's further evidence the BRIC discovery park concept, which includes a combination of university research, industry collaboration and workforce development, is proving to be successful."

Headquartered in New York City, L-3 employs approximately 48,000 people worldwide and is a prime contractor in aerospace systems and national security solutions. L-3 is also a leading provider of a broad range of communication and electronic systems and products used on military and commercial platforms. The company reported 2013 sales of $12.6 billion.
