When Motherwell businessman, Joe O’Raw, was presented with an opportunity to be Scotland’s only independent supplier for three of the country’s top bakery brands, the serial entrepreneur jumped at the chance to launch a new venture.
Four years on, and with support from Business Gateway, Van Sales Direct is looking to expand its existing six van fleet with a series of franchises in the north of Scotland that could double the number of independent retailers on Joe’s books to 2000.
“Simply put if you are an independent retailer in Scotland and want to stock the country’s top three bakery brands, then you have to come to Van Sales Direct,” said Joe. “We have built a strong foundation and it’s now time to take things to the next level.

I attended a Business Gateway franchising event and my adviser put me in touch with an external consultant who has been a great support. He also identified some funding to get things moving.
