Around 30 leading industrialists gathered at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) on Friday (May 10, 2013) to discuss ways to build effective relationship between between academia and industry.
Ahmedabad, Gujarat, May 13, 2014 -(PressReleasePoint)- Around 30 leading industrialists gathered at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) on Friday (May 10, 2013) to discuss ways to build effective relationship between between academia and industry. The discussion was a part of IITGN’s ‘Industry Partnership Retreat’ which was held for the first time this year.
The participants discussed ways to provide the students of the Institute greater exposure to industry via short-term projects, internship opportunities, site visits, seminars by industry experts and discussing various industry-specific case studies. The participants also discussed areas how the Institute can build communication channels with the industry via regular sector focused meetings, continuing education programs and through proactive engagement with trade associations.
IITGN Director Prof Sudhir Jain said, “It is very important to have dialogues between Industry and Academia to understand each other’s expectations and identify gaps. The event today is a major step towards this initiative.”
IITGN has already has strong, ongoing relationships with several companies such as Underwriters Laboratories (UL), The Ricoh Company Ltd and Nielsen LLC. The Industry Partnership Retreat was aimed at developing a roadmap for engaging with industry in an effective and sustainable manner. The discussion also covered topics such as: how industry looks at academia and how to build effective communication channels that can bridge the gap between different expectations of academia and industry and various ways in which IITGN can contribute to industry.
