Liberty University Chooses Daktronics to Upgrade Williams Stadium
BROOKINGS, S.D. – July 13, 2009 – Daktronics Inc. (Nasdaq-DAKT) of Brookings, S.D., announced it was recently chosen to design, manufacture and install a new custom light emitting diode (LED) video football display and scoreboard in Williams Stadium at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.
At 20 feet high and 36 feet wide, the new display will be nearly three times the square footage of the leased video board that has been a fixture at Williams Stadium the past two seasons.
“This new scoreboard shows the commitment Liberty has for its football program,” Liberty Athletics Director Jeff Barber said. “We want to be the very best we can be, and having a Daktronics scoreboard of this magnitude will have abundant benefits for our team, recruiting and the overall Flames football game-day experience.”
With backlit channel letters spelling Liberty University topping the display and an LED digit scoreboard below, the total size will be 24 feet tall and 88 feet wide. The whole display will be located on top of four Jeffersonian pillars behind the north end zone and will be installed in time for the 2009 season.
Daktronics LED video displays use the latest in red, green and blue (RGB) LED technology to present live and recorded video images, colorful animation and vivid graphics with incredible brightness and wide-angle visibility. Daktronics LED video display technology offers a long lifetime with minimal maintenance and low power consumption, providing value and excitement for years to come.
Built in 1989, Williams Stadium is located on the Liberty University campus, near the site of the old football practice fields. The stadium seats exactly 12,000, with seating capacity on the west side of the field accommodating 6,336 fans while the east side stands seat 5,664. Suites were added to the concourse of the press box side of the stadium for the 2007 season. Each unit seats up to 48 people in a climate-controlled environment which includes a second-story, open-air observation deck with tent covering.
There are plans in place to expand Williams Stadium in the near future.
