On Saturday 6th September, one of World Horse Welfare’s four rescue and rehoming centres across the UK, Penny Farm in Blackpool, will hold its annual family fun day – complete with medieval fair.
“We have a fun packed day with entertainment for all the family including Atkinson Action Horses who will amaze you with phenomenal stunt riding and a medieval show,” explains Zoe Clifford, Visitor Officer at Penny Farm.
“We even have our very own rescue ponies who will take part in a pony agility challenge – we’re calling it Penny Farm Princesses vs The Knights.”
There will be a thrilling jousting display by Atkinson Action Horses, birds of prey, archery and fairground rides, to ensure that all members of the family are kept well entertained. There will also be a 'Made in Lancashire' food and craft area, so don't miss out on some local specialities. You can even bring your dog along and have a go at dog agility - or watch the experts show us how it should be done.
The medieval theme continues as you have a go at archery with local club, Saxon Archers, or experience the medieval games area including stocks, rat throwing and medieval hat making.
Local celeb, Thomas Bounce, will be running balloon workshops throughout the day where children can learn to make balloon sculptures - he will also be performing a variety of circus tricks.
All proceeds will go towards helping horses around the world.
“The local community have always been great supporters of our events and we hope that they will join us again this year,” says Zoe. “We are anticipating a greater need to rescue even more unwanted and mistreated ponies over the winter months so events like this are invaluable.”
Admission is £3 for adults and £1 for children under 16 – visitors should follow the signs for event parking when they arrive.
