CASUARINA/NSW (August 11th/2018): The 2018 SAE Group Australian Surf Festival got underway today at Cabarita Point on The Tweed with ideal 2-3ft conditions for the Longboard and Logger divisions.

The junior divisions hit the water first with clean conditions making for some outstanding surfing from the likes of Western Australia’s Jacob Mclvor who top scored in round one of the Junior Logger division with a 13.75 point heat total (out of a possible 20 points).

Mclvor joins other standouts, Queenslanders Aidan Feeley (18 Boys Longboard) and Emily Lethbridge (18 Girls Longboard) in the quarter finals tomorrow.

Conditions deteriorated from midday with round one of the Open Logger division being run in challenging bumpy waves thanks to a strong northerly wind before competition wrapped up for the day.

Nic Jones (QLD), Dane Pioli (NSW), Jared Neal (NSW), Clint Guest (QLD) and Nicolas Brewer (QLD) shape as competitors to watch in the Open Logger division. All five advanced comfortably with Jones top scoring in round one with a 14.15 point heat total (out of a possible 20 points).

Competition is set to resume tomorrow morning on The Tweed with Cabarita Point again the likely venue.
