A superb century from Nic Maddinson and a four-wicket haul from Mickey Edwards headlined a comprehensive JLT One-Day Cup win for the NSW Blues over Tasmania at the WACA on Monday.

Coming off a narrow loss to Western Australia on Friday, Maddinson’s 137 from just 119 balls launched the Blues to 6/316 from their 50 overs.

Despite a bright start Tasmania was bowled out for 214 to lose by 102 runs, with fast bowler Mickey Edwards claiming 4-31 in just his second game for the Blues.

NSW opening pair of Maddinson and Daniel Hughes both quickly raced to 50 before Hughes was stumped off the bowling of Cameron Boyce for 56.

Maddinson continued to score freely and notched up his century not long after, which came off just 88 balls.

Maddinson would eventually depart for 137, an innings which included 23 fours and one six, but not before he had put the Blues in a commanding position.

The Blues moved past 300 thanks to some late hitting from Ed Cowan who compiled a quick-fire half-century off 32 deliveries.

Tasmania came out of the blocks quickly thanks to the opening pair of Ben Dunk and Ben McDermott.

McDermott and Dunk scored at a speedy pace before the partnership was finally broken by the Blues’ Test spinner, Nathan Lyon, who drew an edge from Dunk with Nevill taking a smart catch.

McDermott was dismissed not long after when he edged an Edwards delivery with Peter Nevill taking his second catch of the afternoon.

Jordan Silk provided some middle order resistance for Tasmania however he would also fall prey to Edwards who was in inspired form throughout, dismissing the right hander for 55.

Lyon and Sean Abbott each claimed three wickets as the NSW Blues cruised to a comfortable win in its second JLT One-Day Cup outing for the year.

The NSW Blues next face South Australia at Hurstville Oval in Sydney on Friday, with play set to start at 10:30am.
