Paavo Mustonen who transferred back from Puaikura stepped up and calmly converted the penalty to lead one nil. During the second half Avatiu showed some gutsy play and was also awarded a penalty which captain Tahiri Elikana converted to equalize one all. The new look Avatiu team gained momentum and was unfortunate not to score the winning goal in the dying minutes of the match. In the other premier men’s match scheduled to take place at Matavera, Takuvaine failed to turn up as they were too busy cheering on their rugby union A grade team. In Senior women’s games 2013 Champions Nikao Sokattak picked where they left off last year thrashing Titikaveka by seven goals to nil with Tepaeru Toka scoring a hat trick. In the other matches Tupapa Maraerenga easily accounted for Avatiu with a result of five goals to one while Takuvaine defeated Matavera three goals to one.
