November 04, 2011 -- Hapag-Lloyd informs about the current situation at Manzanillo port.

Please find below update regarding the current situation at Manzanillo port:

  1. Low productivity is maintained within the terminal due to heavy congestion at port yards. No important improvements are expected for the following two weeks.
  2. Customs House schedule has been fixed for the current week in order to meet operational needs.
  3. Rail operation is finally reinitiated after 18 days of shut down:
Ferromex reports that the estimated time to load containers is 4 to 5 days.
  4. Export truck: Due to terminal congestion we are delivering export containers to an alternate off dock yard (MCT) to be transferred later to the terminal when vessel is planned to dock.
  5. Import truck: We have incorporated an additional fleet, either from the same vendors or new ones.
    a. Please consider to issue custom’s declaration by container (not by shipment or MTD) in order to allow flexibility during container to truck allocation.
    b. Trucking equipment assignment is being extended to 72 hours at least. We’ll be reducing such times as soon as port operation gets back to normal.
  6. The port is severely affected due to congestion at customs gateway. Port terminal, in conjunction with the National Port and Municipal’s Authorities are taking action to resolve traffic jams at key traffic points.
  7. We ask for your cooperation to expedite as much as possible your cargo consolidation/reception process in order to release trucks and make them available for other service.
  8. Please also consider to extend your current receiving, loading and unloading schedules during this contingency.

We assure that Hapag-Lloyd plus authorities, customs, port terminal, customs broker, rail and trucking vendors are working at full capacity to offer alternatives and minimize the negative impacts of this contingency, which unfortunately is outside our control.

This situation is seriously affecting the operation of all parties involved, so thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.
