Playing host to nearly 100 events per year, Mariposa County is rapidly becoming known as the Festival Capital of California. Nestled among natural monuments, vineyards and historic Gold Rush landmarks, Mariposa County is more than just California’s gateway to Yosemite National Park -- the area plays host to a wide variety of annual festivals and events that offer something for everyone. Chef’s Holiday at The Ahwahnee
January 1- February 27
Chefs' Holidays feature some of the world's most innovative and acclaimed chefs. Each session features a "Meet the Chefs" reception, cooking classes and demonstrations, behind-the-scenes kitchen tours, and the five-course Chefs' Holidays Gala Dinner.
Nordic Holiday Annual Ski Race
February 20-21
Badger Pass celebrates cross-country skiing each year with their fabulous Nordic Holiday Race. The two day event includes an 18K classic, downhill telemark and 38K free-style events. Whether you're a competitive XC skier, or just someone who'd like to meet other XC skiers, stop by and join in the fun.
Annual Mariposa Storytelling Festival
March 12-14
World renowned storytellers invade Mariposa and surrounding area to the delight of area residents and storytelling fans from far and wide. Events are held all weekend long, featuring concerts, puppets, pantomime and of course the ribald, poignant and often touching selections of stories from 6 storytellers invited to participate in this award winning weekend event.
Mariposa Symphony Orchestra Performance
April 1-30
Presenting the gamut of composers and periods from the Baroque to contemporary world premieres, the Mariposa Symphony Orchestra (under Founder/Conductor Les Marsden) has featured internationally-known guest soloists.
Civil War Reenactment
April 17-18
Commemorating Civil War figure John C. Fremont, and the location of his 44,386 acre Las Mariposas Land Grant, the Las Mariposas Civil War Days are held on the actual site of this grant on over 60 acres of Longs' Mariposa Ranch, in the historical town of Mariposa, CA.
A Weekend in the Country, The Bi-Annual Agri-Nature Trail
April 24-25 & September 25-26
Discover the hidden treasures of Mariposa County with a tour that includes 10-12 local destinations featuring specialized gardens, wineries, artisanal food producers, handmade crafts and heirloom livestock.
Mariposa Butterfly Festival
April 30 – May 2
Mariposa celebrates its namesake at the Annual Butterfly Festival -- a fun filled family weekend highlighting the work of local science classes who cultivate and then release live butterflies to kick off the festival. An old fashion community parade and the Butterfly Hat Contest are only a few highlights.
The City of Coulterville’s Annual Coyote Howl
May 15
The 25th anniversary of this family event features hilarious contests, a parade, vendor booths, Zydeco music, and a car show all in historic Coulterville in the heart of the 49’er Gold Rush territory.
Rotary Fine Art & Wine Festival
May 22
Outstanding, award winning Sierra Foothill wineries present new vintages, hearty and rich red wines of many varieties.
Mariposa Microbrews & Blues Festival
June 5-6
Featuring 3 stages of the finest blues artists, delicious hand crafted beer and gourmet food, the gates open at noon and the music and beer flows until 9pm.
