Mariposa Wildflowers Flourish to Life in Late February, Increasing in Abundance Until May
Spring yields 50-60 different species of flowers to life in our backyard. As the weather begins to warm the Mariposa County land comes to life with an abundance of must-see, awe-inspiring wildflowers.
Mariposa, CA, February 23, 2010 (PressReleasePoint) -- As the weather begins to warm the Mariposa County land comes to life with an abundance of must-see, awe-inspiring wildflowers. Rolling hills of California Poppies, Redbuds and several other species of flowers can be found on hikes and drives throughout the area. Those wishing to experience the assortment of wildflowers have to take advantage of the short viewing window, as the flowers are only in bloom from late February to May.
Because every trip is one of a kind, with features that distinguish it from others, each trip has been carefully mapped out for onlookers to enjoy. To help visitors plan a trip experience during this fascinating season, following is a list of trips that explore the Mariposa wildflowers.
• Trip #1 “Hite Cove” – The 4.5-mile trail runs from Highway 140 to Hite Cove is spectacular in early spring. Nearly 60 varieties of wildflowers can be found during a round-trip hike along the South Fork of the Merced River from February to May.
• Trip #2 “Hornitos Tour” – The trip leads guests through the foothills, along a creek bed and finishes with grassy knolls to Hornitos. Redbud and several other varieties of flowering shrubs can be seen during the trip in the foothills. The area is most abundant in March and April.
• Trip #3 “Mariposa to Coulterville” – During March and April a 27-mile trip guides onlookers through 11 miles of Bear Valley, where flowers in the plateau flat lands can been seen. The final 7 miles of the trip take onlookers to Historic Coulterville, over grassy knolls covered in California Poppies, along with other flowers.
• Trip #4 “Ben Hur Road” –From March to May onlookers can drive through canyons, along streams until the road peaks out at Moore Hill. This 3-4 hour trip has several perfect places for picnic spots.
• Trip #5 “Merced River Canyon” –Carpets of poppies and goldfields can be found along this trip. Guest can marvel at the beautiful trail when the Redbud is in bloom from March to May.
